The news is officially official! Shane van Gisbergen is going full-time NASCAR Cup Series racing with Trackhouse Racing in 2025. SVG is going to be driving a very special number as well.

NASCAR fans will be very interested to know that Shane van Gisbergen is not driving his old No. 97 in 2025. Instead, the Kiwi will pilot the No. 88 Chevy. Bringing back the number that has previously been associated with Hendrick Motorsports and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

SVG joins Ross Chastain and Daniel Suárez on the Trackhouse Cup roster as the organization purchases a third charter for next season.

“This is a big day in so many ways for Trackhouse Racing, Shane, Chevrolet and race fans around the world,” said Trackhouse owner Justin Marks. “This is an important step for our organisation and it’s a credit to the men and women at Trackhouse Racing whose hard work and success the last few years has led to us expanding to three Cup teams in 2025.

“It’s also a big step up for Shane who took a chance on Trackhouse Racing, moved here from New Zealand and now joins the most competitive stock car racing series in the world. Everyone will get to watch one of the world’s racing superstars compete in the NASCAR Cup Series next year.”

Yesterday, Trackhouse announced they were parting ways with Zane Smith at the end of the 2024 season. So, the writing was on the wall. It was clear that they had made their decision.

Even though Shane van Gisbergen is 35 years old, he has a lot of years left of racing. He’s one of those guys that just loves to do it and doesn’t seem to want to quit any time soon. So, get used to seeing the three-time Supercars champion.

Shane van Gisbergen feels ‘ready’ to take on Cup Series

This year in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Shane van Gisbergen has three wins. He is second in playoff points, and has shown an improvement on ovals I am not sure many expected. During this rookie season he has had quite a few highlights.

For the Kiwi, this is the next step. It is what he has prepared for, and he is eager to get started.

“This is what I have planned for and I am ready,” SVG said in a statement. “I know there is a tough learning curve ahead, but the best way to learn is to go out and do it. I feel I have made progress running the Xfinity Series this year with Kaulig Racing and I can’t thank everyone there enough, I look forward to the Cup Series. Those drivers and teams are the best in the world and it will be an honor to be part of their races.”

Shane van Gisbergen does not shy from competition. He embraces it. Much in the same way Kyle Larson embraces competition. That’s why I think he is going to be successful.
