Trae Young game-winner: Hawks star hits half-court buzzer beater to down Utah Jazz
After the Utah Jazz tied up Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, Trae Young ended it. He drained a half-court buzzer-beater to send Atlanta to the 124-121 victory.
Young hit two free throws to put the Hawks ahead 121-118 with 8.1 seconds left, but Collin Sexton hit a three-pointer out of the timeout with four seconds to go. Out of timeouts themselves, the Hawks had to scramble, and Young took the inbound to the half-court line.
He pulled up from 49 feet, and completed one of the craziest game-ending sequences of the year. Just like that, Atlanta came away with the 124-121 victory.
Trae Young ended the night with 24 points, thanks to that buzzer-beater. But he also dished out 20 assists as he helped propel the Hawks to their 19th victory of the season. Atlanta got above .500 with Tuesday’s win, improving to 19-18 on the year.
The former Oklahoma star is in the midst of another impressive year in Atlanta. He entered Tuesday night averaging 22 points as well as a league-leading 12 assists.

Clint Capela was also part of the attack, and his 18 points sat right behind Young for the team lead. Dyson Daniels also added 16 points to go with six rebounds and seven assists as Atlanta used a balanced effort throughout the night.
On the Utah side, Lauri Markkanen had a monster performance. He had a game-high 35 points while Sexton finished with 24, as well. However, it wasn’t enough to stop Young and the Hawks offense, which shot 48% from the field and went 18-for-44 from three-point territory.
It was another rough night for the Jazz, who are now 9-26 overall on the season after failing to reach its first three-game winning streak. That’s the fifth-worst record in the NBA as the league gets ready for its trade deadline next month. Utah will now get ready to take on the Miami Heat on Thursday.
Atlanta, meanwhile, is getting ready to take on the Phoenix Suns on Thursday with its three-game skid in the past. Tip-off for that game will be at 9 p.m. ET.
