On the field, Travis Kelce remained Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target and helped the Kansas City Chiefs to a third straight Super Bowl appearance. All the while, he rose to stardom off the field with his podcast and got a new group of fans thanks to his relationship with Taylor Swift.
The 2024 season marked Kelce’s 12th season in the NFL. At age 35, rumors continue to swirl about the possibility of retirement, and he addressed that idea at Super Bowl LIX media day.
Kelce didn’t sound like someone ready to walk away just yet. He told reporters there’s still some gas left in the tank and retirement likely isn’t on the table, no matter what happens Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I don’t know, hopefully still playing football,” Kelce said, via Front Office Sports. “I love doing this. I love coming into work every day, and I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me. We’ll see what happens.”
Kelce’s numbers dropped a bit this season as he totaled a career-low 823 yards and three touchdowns. But he remains a key part of the Kansas City offense thanks to his connection with Mahomes. While the Chiefs have some questions at the wide receiver position, those players still get open as defenses continue to key in on Kelce.

But the star tight end is also cashing in away from the field – fulfilling a goal he set at the start of his career. His New Heights podcast alongside his brother, Jason, continues to gain popularity. Kelce has also appeared on stage alongside Swift at concerts, further growing his profile.
That helped fuel the speculation about how much longer he plans to play. For now, though, he plans to continue suiting up for the Chiefs.
“I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life,” Kelce said. “That’s always been the goal, knowing that football only lasts for so long. You’ve got to find a way to get into another career, another profession. I’ve been doing that in my offseasons. But for the most part, I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”
Travis Kelce and the Chiefs are looking to do something no team has ever done in the Super Bowl era – win three straight titles. The road to history runs through the Eagles, though, in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII. Kickoff of Sunday’s game is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
