Travis Kelce breaks Jerry Rice's all-time playoff receptions record during AFC Championship
If it wasn’t already, Travis Kelce’s name is now officially etched in the history books. During the Kansas City Chiefs’ matchup against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship on Sunday, the standout tight end broke the record for most career receptions in the NFL Playoffs.
Hall-of-fame wide receiver Jerry Rice previously held the record with 151 receptions. Kelce entered the AFC Championship with 145 catches in his playoff career. He shattered Rice’s stunning record before the halftime break.
With just under seven minutes left in the second quarter, Kelce hauled in a seven-yard reception to secure history. The all-time playoff receptions record isn’t the only milestone Kelce is in the hunt for. Kelce also trails Rice by just one place in receiving yards (1,964) and playoff receiving touchdowns (19).
Rice finished his career with 2,245 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns in the playoffs. In the Chiefs’ win over the Bills, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes became the league’s career leader in playoff touchdowns (16) between a quarterback and receiver.
Tom Brady pays tributes to Travis Kelce
Tom Brady previously held the record with 15 touchdown passes thrown to tight end Rob Gronkowski. The former Patriots legend gave the Chiefs super duo a shoutout on social media after the game.

“BEASTS,” Brady tweeted. “When you one up gronk you’re doing something right.”
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have scored all 16 of their playoff touchdowns while playing for the Chiefs. Brady and Gronkowski, on the other hand, scored most with the Patriots, but also reconnected with the Buccaneers. They had their final touchdown connection during the Bucs’ 2021 Super Bowl run before Gronkowski re-retired.
During his post-game press conference, Mahomes gave all the credit to his teammate for what they’ve been able to accomplish. The QB finished the game 17-for-23 for 215 yards and two touchdowns.
“It speaks to Travis and his work, to be able to go out there and make plays in big games,” Mahomes said. “Passing anything that has Brady and Gronk in it is special. Because those are two of the greatest players.”
Two minutes before halftime of the AFC Championship, Kelce boasts seven receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. Fans can tune into the highly-contested showdown on CBS.
