Travis Kelce calls the additions of Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy 'unbelievable' for the Chiefs
Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce is well aware that his two new speedy teammates can do wonders for his own game once the season starts in September.
After all, if opposing defenses need to pay attention to both Xavier Worthy and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, they may lose track of Kelce, who likes to bust zones in the middle of the field. That’s why Kelce was raving about both the receivers during an interview last month.
“It’s unbelievable that (general manager Brett) Veach finds ways to bring in – not only guys that have talent, that have unbelievable skill sets but are good people.” Kelce told reporters. “Just being able to get to know them (Brown and Worthy) over this offseason, it’s just been cool that Hollywood and X are just – they’re down to earth, humble guys and they love coming to work and they love football.
“When you bring that kind of mentality into a building that has that culture already set, the sky is the limit for those guys,” the Chiefs star said. “I’m excited that they’re here.”
The Chiefs won the Super Bowl, their second straight, back in February. But if there was a weakness on offense, it was with the receivers. Patrick Mahomes still could rely on his best friend, Kelce. But Kelce’s production dropped in 2023. With 984 receiving yards, it was the first time Kelce hadn’t surpassed 1,000 in eight seasons. The Chiefs tight end did miss two games with injury. But his 10.6 yards per catch was the lowest of his career.

So Kansas City addressed its receiver concerns in the offseason by adding two speedy wideouts. They first signed Brown, a former first-round draft pick. Back in 2019, the Ravens used the 25th pick of the NFL Draft to select Brown, the former Oklahoma Sooner. He switched to the Cardinals in 2022. The Chiefs then signed Brown to a one-year deal.
Then in April, the Chiefs traded up to select Worthy, the former Texas Longhorn. Worthy thrilled coaches and scouts at the NFL Combine when he ran a 4.21-second time in the 40-yard dash. The time was the best ever run in at the Indianapolis combine.
The first round was stocked with receivers, with seven going amongst the top 32 picks. Worthy was the fifth wideout off the board.
The Chiefs start prepping for their run for a third straight Super Bowl on July 21. That’s the start of training camp in St. Joseph, Mo. Kelce will get even more work with his two new teammates.
