Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is always doing right by his quarterback, on and off the field. And it doesn’t have to be Patrick Mahomes, either, as the pass catcher helped recently-retired Kansas City quarterback Chad Henne get back a prized possession.

Never mind that Kelce had a hand in losing the thing in the first place. Kelce was the recipient of Henne’s first career touchdown pass, which he hauled in during the AFC Divisional playoff against Jacksonville. Upon scoring, Kelce underhand hurled the pass into the crowd.

While they were plenty happy to celebrate then absent the momento in the moment — Henne was in for the banged-up Mahomes in the playoffs — Kelce made moves to get the ball back for Henne.

“Yeah, so we asked the Kansas City fan if you could please return that ball so I could gift it to my guy as a retirement gift. And I’ll tell you what, they are here today,” Kelce said to Henne during a recent live taping of the “New Heights” podcast in Kansas City.

Kelce was not kidding, as the person who went home with that ball was in attendance.

“Get outta here,” Henne said.

Kelce and Henne, along with Mahomes — also on stage — and Jason Kelce, the co-host of the podcast, got up from their seats and started scanning the crowd for the person they were looking for. Eventually they spotted them in the crowd, just off to the side stage left.

A little cajoling got them to toss the ball up on stage.

“Where are you? Show yourself. Aw yeah baby, you gotta Travis Kelce it back on to the stage,” Kelce said, referencing his own underhanded throw.

When they did rear back and let the ball fly, it was Mahomes who ended up snatching it out of the air before handing it to Henne.

“He’s always got our back!” Kelce exclaimed.

Mahomes had an amusing reaction to a picture of him and Kelce

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce combine to make up the most lethal quarterback-tight end duo in the NFL.

Coming off their second Super Bowl title in four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, the duo were back at it this week for OTAs. Tied to the hip they were, maybe even a little too much for Mahomes’ taste. Kansas City’s social media team captured a photo of the two walking together on the field — nearly hand-in-hand.

Mahomes couldn’t help but think the same thing, sharing his reaction on Twitter.

“Why did i think we were holding hands @tkelce,” Mahomes tweeted.

Mahomes and Kelce are coming off arguably their best season together, the latter hauling in a career-high 110 receptions for 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns.
