Travis Kelce returns to practice after suffering sprained ankle
Travis Kelce, even with a tender ankle, practiced Tuesday as he and the Chiefs do a quick turnaround for their Thursday Night Football appearance against the Broncos.
Kelce sprained his ankle in the second quarter of the Chiefs road game against the Vikings Sunday. After leaving the field (on his own power) to receive X-rays on his foot, Kelce was able to return to action. He watched the first series of the third quarter from the sideline, but then played the rest of the way.
Kansas City won the game, 27-20. And even with a tender ankle, Kelce led all Chiefs receivers. Patrick Mahomes targeted him 11 times and the tight end caught 10 of the passes for 67 yards. And Kelce’s touchdown came post, sprained ankle.
“Competitor, man,” Mahomes told reporters in regards to Travis Kelce. “That’s why he’s one of the greatest. He will battle through stuff like that and came back and made a lot of great catches for us.”
The Chiefs issued their Tuesday injury report. It showed he didn’t practice, Monday, and was limited Tuesday.
Kansas City Star photographer Nick Wagner snapped some shots of Kelce on the practice field. His right ankle was heavily taped. Coming into the season, Kelce enjoyed an Iron Man rep. He didn’t miss games because of injuries. But Kelce bruised his knee right before the season opener and missed playing in the loss to the Lions.
Andy Reid says Travis Kelce is feeling ‘little bit better’
Chiefs coach Andy Reid addressed Travis Kelce’s injury status Tuesday during his pre-practice press gathering.

“He’s done well,” Reid told reporters. “He’s gotten quite a little bit of treatment on it. So, he’s feeling a little bit better, which is good.”
“He’s always been honest with me on things like that. So, we’ll just see how he does,” Reid added. “But he’s doing OK out there today, so we’ll see where it goes.”
Of course, Travis Kelce’s popularity has sky rocketed thanks to his association with pop star Taylor Swift. The singer attended games against the Bears (in Kansas City) and Jets (at MetLife Stadium). But she didn’t travel to Minnesota for the Vikings game. And she wasn’t there for his birthday dinner last week.
However, the Kansas City Star reported that Swift made a “generous” donation to Harvesters, a local food bank. Travis Kelce also has donated to this non-profit. Apparently, Swift made hers after she did concerts this summer at Arrowhead Stadium. She’s made similar gifts to other food banks located in cities where’s she’s given concerts.
The food bank couldn’t reveal the amount. But the KC Star said Swift’s funds will provide thousands of meals.
