Travis Kelce reveals how he ended up on stage at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is used to going viral for his play during the football season but he did it once again last month when he made a surprise cameo on stage at the Eras Tour in London. The 34-year-old NFL player joined his girlfriend Taylor Swift as she did an on-stage costume change before singing ‘I Can Do It with a Broken Heart’ from her new album, The Tortured Poets Department.
Swift’s fans had grown used to seeing Kelce in the VIP sections of her shows, dancing along and sending her signals from off the stage, but his surprise appearance in London was his first time on stage with her since they began dating last fall.
On the New Heights podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, Travis revealed how his brief performance came to life.
“I initially mentioned it to Tay,” Kelce said. “I was like, ‘How funny would it be if I just rolled out on one of the bikes during the 1989 era’.”
The Grammy winner laughed at the idea before beginning to consider a role for him in the performance, asking him, “Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?”
Kelce shared that he was incredulous that she even had to ask. “I was just like, ‘What? I would love to do that, are you kidding me? I’ve seen the show enough – might as well put me to work here.'”
Swift picks the perfect role for goofy Kelce
During the three-hour-long show, Kelce appeared on stage in a top hat and tails as one of Swift’s puppeteers. He carries her to a couch where she does her costume change and helps touch up her make-up before demonstrating how he wants her to put on a big smile and continue performing. Carrying his girlfriend on stage in front of thousands was the most intimidating part, according to the Chiefs tight end.

“The one thing I told myself is, ‘Do not drop the baby.’ Do not drop Taylor on your way over this couch,” Kelce said.
As for the privilege of joining Swift on stage at her sold-out billion-dollar tour, Kelce called it “an absolute blast” and an “honor.”
“It’s such a fun, playful part of the show… I didn’t disappoint Taylor, so that’s all that really matters,” he added.
Kelce has several more opportunities to surprise fans at Eras Tour shows in the next few weeks. Then, he’ll be off to training camp with the Chiefs.
