Travis Kelce sets Kansas City Chiefs franchise record for most touchdowns
Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has made more history. Kelce has set the Chiefs franchise record for receiving touchdowns with 77. He set the record on Christmas Day against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a 12-yard touchdown reception.
Travis Kelce broke the previous Kansas City Chiefs record of 76 receiving touchdowns, which was held by Tony Gonzalez. The 35-year-old Kelce is in his 11th season in the NFL after being drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati.
Travis Kelce has proven to be one of the best tight ends in NFL history and helped the Chiefs win three Super Bowls, including each of the past two. Kansas City is once again a contender this season.
Kelce isn’t having the best year of his career in 2024, but he is still the go-to weapon for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He has seven 1,000-yard receiving seasons in his career and he nearly reached that mark last season, finishing with 984.
Before Travis Kelce set the Chiefs receiving touchdowns record, Tony Gonzalez spoke about the possibility of him doing so.

“I don’t want him to break it. Come on,” Tony Gonzalez joked, according to A to Z Sports. “I am so happy for him. He’s one of the best tight ends to ever do it. On and off the field, I’ve been watching him grow. I’ve been following him since he was a rookie. And I’m not surprised by it.
“He’s one of the greatest tight ends of all time. To have myself, then to have Travis to come and take that torch. A lot of history is going to be broken out on this field today.”
Tony Gonzalez was known for dunking the football through the goalpost when he scored. He made an offer to Travis Kelce if he were to dunk the ball after he scored.
“If he dunks it, I will pay that fine,” Gonzalez reportedly said.
The crossbar dunking celebration was banned by the NFL back ahead of the 2014 season. Dunking a football now leads to a penalty and a potential fine.
