Trevon Diggs injury update: Mike McCarthy reveals Cowboys CB chances against Atlanta amid torn calf
Dallas Cowboys (3-4) head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that cornerback Trevon Diggs will be a game-time decision for Sunday’s Week 9 road contest against the Atlanta Falcons (5-3).
McCarthy said Diggs had a good workout Friday, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. Diggs, who missed Wednesday and Thursday’s practice, suffered a tear in his calf in last Sunday’s 30-24 Week 8 road defeat to the San Francisco 49ers (4-4), team owner Jerry Jones revealed Friday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
“There’s specific drills we’ll need to him to do tomorrow. But he was much better today than we could’ve anticipated,” McCarthy said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “He’s doing everything he can to try to get ready for Sunday.”
Diggs, the two-time Pro Bowler and 2021 All-Pro, has suited up in all seven games this season after missing 15 games in 2023 due to a torn ACL. The 26-year-old has compiled 28 tackles (23 tackles), four passes defended and one interception. He has struggled in coverage, grading out 134th among 201 cornerbacks, according to Pro Football Focus.

Trevon Diggs a game-time decision in Week 9 vs. Falcons
Diggs said Wednesday his calf “was a little sore” coming out of the game versus San Francisco.
“It was a little sore coming out of the game,” Diggs said. “Probably one of the plays I got hit or something. I’m getting treatment and working through it.”
The Cowboys have been ravaged with injuries this season, with linebacker Micah Parsons, cornerback DaRon Bland, defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence, receiver Brandin Cooks and linebacker Marshawn Kneeland all on the shelf with injuries.
Bland has yet to take to the field this season alongside Diggs, and it doesn’t appear it will happen against Atlanta. Bland, who set an NFL single-season record in 2023 with five pick sixes, did not take part in Friday’s walkthrough. He remains sidelined with a foot fracture.
