Unfortunately, we will not see Trevon Diggs on a football field for the rest of the year. The former All-Pro cornerback tore his ACL on Thursday during practice, ending what was an exciting start to the 2023 season. A non-contact injury during a 1-on-1 drill, the Dallas Cowboys’ defense will have to work without one of its best players.

Just a few hours following the news, Diggs penned a message on Twitter (X). He thanked everyone for checking in on him, with this being the first significant injury of his NFL career. Diggs believes he will be back and “better” than before — hopefully for the beginning of the 2024 season.

“Thank you for all the prayers and I appreciate everyone for checking on me! This is just God’s Plan,” Diggs said. “I will be back and better!”

Diggs — and the entire Dallas defense — was having a great start to the 2023 season. Through just two games, the Giants and Jets had managed just 10 points. Diggs earned an interception this past Sunday afternoon off Zach Wilson during the blowout win. The ACL tear comes at a devastating time.

But as he says in the message, the road to recovery for Diggs has already begun. Dallas will be hoping to get him back in the starting lineup by next Septemeber. For now, Diggs can cheer on his teammates as they chase the Lombardi Trophy.

Dallas Cowboys to continue 2023 season without Trevon Diggs

Dallas’ original fear has become true — Diggs will miss the rest of the 2023 season and as a result, some switches are going to have to be made in the secondary. David Moore of the Dallas Morning News outlined what the Cowboys could do, suggesting nickel corner DaRon Bland makes the shift to the outside.

“DaRon Bland will now start opposite of Stephon Gilmore,” Moore said via Twitter. “Jourdan Lewis will take over the slot.”

Bland is in his second NFL season and by many around the Cowboys, has been considered a steal of the 2022 Draft. He now has a big job of replacing Diggs opposite of Gilmore.

Lewis has been with Dallas for quite a few years now, being a third-round selection in 2017. He was once considered a starter but an injury kept him out for the majority of the 2022 season. With Diggs’ ACL tear, his role will suddenly become quite an important one.
