Trevor Lawrence is not worried about getting a new contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars despite being possibly the next in line to get a huge deal. While speaking to reporters on Monday. The 24-year-old quarterback gave an update on the ongoing contract extension talks with the Jaguars.

“I’m aware of what’s going on, but I try to keep my focus on doing my job out here,” Lawrence said. “I have full belief that’ll take care of itself and that’s not something that I need to worry about. That’s why I pay people and hire people to do that for me. That’s not my job, but I know what’s going on. I’m aware of the situation, I think that’s important too. I try to keep my focus and energy on being the best player I can be to help us win.”

Lawrence was then asked if he would like to get the contract done before the start of training camp or the start of the regular season. “I think that would be ideal just to put it behind us and keep moving and feel good about that going into training camp,” Lawrence said. “But either way, I have the same job. I can’t always control all those factors, but I have the same job to do either way. …That would be ideal to get it done as soon as you can and kind of move forward.”

Trevor Lawrence took a small step back in 2023

In 2023, Lawrence completed 65.6 percent of his passes while throwing for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with a 88.5 passer rating. He had strong 2022 season, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight picks. Lawrence led the Jaguars to the playoffs that season, and the team won a playoff game.

If Lawrence gets a new contract with the Jaguars, will he make $50 million yearly? Based on how the QB market is going, the former Clemson Tigers star is on track to be the sixth QB to be part of the $50 million club. Yes, Lawrence has had his ups and downs during his three seasons with the Jaguars, but he brings stability to the position, something the team has lacked for a long time.

That said, Lawrence needs to have a big year to prove he can be what the Jaguars and their fans need. It’s likely a deal will be done before the season begins, but if Lawrence and the Jaguars miss the playoffs for the second consecutive year, there will be more questions than answers about the future of the QB position.
