Trevor Lawrence explains importance of 'stability' with Jaguars after contract extension

Through three years in Jacksonville, it’s been an up-and-down go for Trevor Lawrence. But the Jaguars made it clear he’s their quarterback of the future, giving him a lucrative contract extension ahead of his fourth NFL season.
Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million agreement to stay in Jacksonville – resetting the quarterback market in the process. He is now tied with Joe Burrow for the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league after back-to-back 4,000-yard seasons under Doug Pederson with the Jaguars.
With training camp quickly coming up later this month, Lawrence knows his best is yet to come in his young career. But knowing he’ll be in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future is another important part of the extension.
“Really excited,” Lawrence said on NFL Network’s “The Insiders” on Thursday. “Just to be in Jacksonville, we love living there. It’s become home for us. Talking about the team and where we’re heading, the best days are definitely ahead of us. I know, speaking individually as well, in my game, I feel like I’m far from playing my best football, and I know that’s ahead of me. So I’m really excited about that.
“Just to have this stability of knowing where home’s gonna be long term – the next five, seven years, whatever it ends up being – that feels good to have that secure and know that we’re gonna be in Jacksonville. We can build this thing like we want to.”

Trevor Lawrence: 2024 Jaguars are ‘the best team we’ve had since I’ve been here’
Lawrence made a Pro Bowl in his second NFL season – the first after Pederson took over – and turned in another strong year in 2023 even though the Jaguars missed the playoffs. But they made some big-time additions this year, notably selecting Brian Thomas Jr. out of LSU in the 2024 NFL Draft and landing defensive lineman Arik Armstead in free agency.
Those newcomers, along with the returning crew, are why Lawrence said the Jags have a high ceiling in 2024. In fact, he doesn’t think he’s played with a better roster since heading to Jacksonville as the top pick in the 2020 draft.
“I’m really excited,” Lawrence said. “This team that we have this year is really good. I think it’s the best team we’ve had since I’ve been there, and I’m really excited to all see it come together throughout training camp and as we get ready for the season.”
