Trevor Lawrence injury update: Adam Schefter ‘would be surprised’ if Jaguars QB plays again in 2024
Trevor Lawrence could be done for the season as ESPN’s Adam Schefter would be surprised to see the Jacksonville Jaguars QB again in 2024.
Following a concussion suffered Sunday during a late hit against the Houston Texans, Lawrence’s comeback attempt for the final five games would be futile, per the ESPN insider. At 2-10, there’s not much left for the Jaguars to do.
The concussion wasn’t the only injury to Lawrence this season either.
“They’re 2-10,” Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. “He’s been dealing with a left shoulder injury. He’s now got the concussion. I would say, frankly, in my opinion, I’d be surprised if we see Trevor Lawrence play again this season. Like, why are we putting him out there? To me, it’s time to rest him up and start getting him ready for 2025. He was dealing with a shoulder injury that he was playing through that was hard enough to be out there now you get this massive blow to his head where he has to be carted off.
“Why are we going to put him back out there at 2-10? Like, what are we doing? Yeah, he’s extraordinarily tough, and he plays through everything but somebody needs to tell him in his best interest: ‘You shouldn’t be playing again this season.’”

Lawrence left the game after Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair hit him in the head in the second quarter. The former Clemson Tigers QB was sliding on a first-down run when he was hit, which led to Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones getting into a fight with Al-Shaair. Jones and Al-Shaair were ejected from the game.
“That was a bad play,” Jaguars Josh Hines-Allen said after the game, per the team’s official website. “The way we’ve changed the rules on how we play, we go over these things. We talk about these things. We know how to play football. The game has changed. A couple of years ago, that would have been a great hit. Now, that wasn’t a good play. It wasn’t a smart play.”
Lawrence was making his first start since Week 10 when he suffered a sprained AC joint in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He missed the next two starts, and the Jaguars had a Week 12 bye ahead of the Texans game. Before the injury, Lawrence completed four of his 10 passes for 41 yards and one interception.
