Trevor Lawrence injury update: Jaguars QB speaks out after suffering concussion on vicious hit vs. Texans
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence spoke out after suffering a concussion during Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. Lawrence went to X to give an update on his health and send a message to everyone who supports him.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out / been praying for me. I’m home and feeling better,” Lawrence wrote. “Means a lot, thank you all.”
Lawrence left the game after Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair hit him in the head in the second quarter. The former Clemson Tigers QB was sliding on a first-down run when he was hit, which led to Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones getting into a fight with Al-Shaair. Jones and Al-Shaair were ejected from the game.
“That was a bad play,” Jaguars Josh Hines-Allen said after the game, per the team’s official website. “The way we’ve changed the rules on how we play, we go over these things. We talk about these things. We know how to play football. The game has changed. A couple of years ago, that would have been a great hit. Now, that wasn’t a good play. It wasn’t a smart play.”

Jaguars players react to hit on Trevor Lawrence
Jaguars tight end Evan Engram also went after Al-Shaair after the hit and expressed his frustrations while speaking to reporters. “It was a dirty hit,” he said, per ESPN. “Obviously those hits are always in question. Trevor was going down and I saw it out of my peripheral [vision]. I got a pretty clear view of it, and in that moment, just [reacted on] instincts. It just didn’t feel like a clean hit, so just go stick up for my quarterback.
“I mean, I saw him sliding and then I saw the hit, and then just, honestly, it just took over. I just knew it was wrong. It was just a dirty play, and you stick up for your guys.”
Lawrence was making his first start since Week 10 when he suffered a sprained AC joint in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He missed the next two starts, and the Jaguars had a Week 12 bye ahead of the Texans game. Before the injury, Lawrence completed four of his 10 passes for 41 yards and one interception.
