Trevor Lawrence drawing Justin Herbert comparisons
Trevor Lawrence rewrote the record books at Clemson, becoming the winningest quarterback in school history. He became Clemson’s first No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft in April, too, when the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him.
The Jaguars new quarterback has impressed so far in training camp. And on Tuesday, his teammate compared him to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
“I was back in L.A. last year, for the past four years, and I was able to see a guy like Justin Herbert,” Jaguars cornerback Rayshawn Jenkins said on Inside Training Camp Live. “They have some similar traits, with the body type, the pocket presence, just the poise in the pocket.”
Breaking down the Justin Herbert comparison
Herbert surprised the league last year. The former Oregon quarterback took over the starting job in L.A. in week two and never looked back. He was named rookie of the year and offensive rookie of the year by the Pro Football Writers of America as he threw for 28 touchdowns, the most by any rookie in NFL history. He also became just the fourth rookie in league history to throw for over 4,000 yards.
Both Herbert and Lawrence had successful college careers.
Along with becoming the winningest quarterback in school history, Lawrence delivered Clemson a national championship as a freshman and was constantly in the mix for the Heisman Trophy. Herbert emerged as one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2019 draft, paring his strong pocket presence with great athleticism. He helped Oregon win the Pac-12 title as a senior and was named the Rose Bowl MVP.

Trevor Lawrence assimilating to the NFL
Lawrence had limited reps in the offseason. He had labrum sugary on his non-throwing arm in the spring and dealt with hamstring tightness, which resulted in the Jags being cautious with his workouts in rookie minicamp and OTAs.
Expected to be the franchise quarterback in Jacksonville, he has showed the traits that come with the title throughout training camp. Nearly back at full strength, he shined in a scrimmage on Sunday where he showcased his arm strength.
Lawrence is still on track to be the week one starter against the Houston Texans. Jacksonville opens up the preseason on Saturday when it hosts Cleveland.
