Ole Miss cornerback Trey Amos is officially heading to the NFL. He heard his name called in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Washington Commanders selected Amos in the second round of the draft. He put together a career year at Ole Miss after a season at Alabama and three at Louisiana.

Amos recorded career-highs with 50 tackles, including four tackles for loss, along with three interceptions as he recorded 13 passes defended. That came after he played at defensive back at Alabama in 2023, totaling 12 tackles.

In his three years at Louisiana, Amos had 50 tackles, including 36 as a true junior in 2022. His lone interception with the Ragin’ Cajuns came as a freshman on a 51-yard return.

Amos played high school football at New Iberia (La.) Catholic, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,573 overall player and No. 159-ranked cornerback from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Trey Amos

Trey Amos put together a strong showing during the pre-draft process, including at the NFL Scouting Combine. He was one of the 10 fastest cornerbacks in the 40-yard dash, clocking in at 4.43 seconds in the event. As a result, Amos generated second-round buzz late in the process.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. projected him to go in the middle of the second round in his final mock draft, and NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein said his physicality can help him make a difference. If he can improve his decision-making, Amos could play a role as an outside corner.

“Long press cornerback who proved he could make the jump from the Sun Belt to the SEC without a hitch,” Zierlein wrote. “Amos can disrupt the release and plays with good short-area movement in man coverage. He can get a little lost at the top of the route and needs occasional safety nets over the top. He has twitchy feet to close and sees the action clearly from zone but can be hampered by indecisiveness, despite favorable instincts.

“Amos uses physicality and length to shrink the 50/50 odds in his favor. He can play in multiple coverage but is most consistent in zone. Amos needs to ramp up his run support and trust his eyes in space, but he has the goods to become a solid starting outside corner.
