Troy Aikman has predicted the winner of Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. On ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current Monday Night Football commentator picked the Chiefs to win their third consecutive Super Bowl.
“I’m like the rest of America, Tony [Kornheiser]. You know, how do you bet against Patrick Mahomes?” Aikman said.” There’s a lot of quarterbacks in the game that just play every possession as if it’s the same, and Patrick Mahomes, like Tom Brady, and like other great quarterbacks before them, they know how to win. And Patrick Mahomes doesn’t care what it may look like.
“He knows that when the game’s on the line that he will find a way and he knows exactly what the formula is. And the formula’s different from one possession to the next or from one game to the next, and he’s proven that obviously as I mentioned with the one-score games and them being able to win all of them. Until proven otherwise, I’m going to stand behind Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes.”
More on Super Bowl LIX and Troy Aikman
It’s hard to argue against Aikman as the Chiefs have won three Super Bowls in the last five seasons. They enter this year’s championship game with the best record in the NFL (tied with the Detroit Lions in the regular season), and Mahomes is a three-time winner of the Super Bowl MVP award.

The Chiefs are the first team to reach the Super Bowl five times in a six-season span. They are also the fourth team all-time to appear in three consecutive Super Bowls, joining the 1990-93 Buffalo Bills (four consecutive Super Bowls), 1971-73 Miami Dolphins (three) and 2016-18 New England Patriots (three).
Super Bowl LIX will be a rematch of Super Bowl LVI. It’s the ninth Super Bowl rematch ever and the second time two teams have met in a three-season span (Bills vs. Cowboys, Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII). In Super Bowl LVII the Chiefs rallied to beat the Eagles 38-35.
Troy Aikman is very familiar with the Super Bowl and he won three of them with the Cowboys. He was named MVP of Super Bowl XXVII, throwing for 274 yards and four touchdowns in the game that was played in Pasadena California in January 1993.
