Troy Aikman reacts to fallout from Taylor Swift gaffe on Monday Night Football
Troy Aikman’s gaffe on Monday Night Football regarding Taylor Swift’s relationship status with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce made headlines earlier this week.
After Kelce made a catch during the final moments of the first half against the New Orleans Saints, the camera panned to Swift in her suite cheering on her boyfriend. Aikman said “The Mrs. likes it,” which his broadcast partner Joe Buck made sure to correct in the moments after.
The NFL Hall of Famer recently joined Pardon My Take to discuss his unintentional slip, where Aikman was in high spirits about the topic despite the immense backlash from Swifties across the internet on Monday.
“Was that a big deal?” Aikman asked the crew on Pardon My Take. “I mean, was I on a tightrope there? This morning, I woke up and I saw a headline like, ‘Aikman knew he was in trouble,’ or something. And I’m thinking, gosh, if this is newsworthy. I mean, like, really?
PFT Commenter, a co-host of the popular show, questioned whether or not this was some sort of curse he was trying to put on the relationship between the NFL star and the global icon, and even on the team as a whole.

“I don’t know if I cursed them or not, but someone actually reached out to me today and said that they might actually be engaged,” Aikman said. “So I might have broken the story.”
The mishap happened while Swift was attending her third Chiefs game of the season, as the 34-year-old music icon also attended the first two home games of the year but missed the Chiefs’ two road games. However, Swift has been able to attend all of her boyfriend’s home games so far this season.
The Chiefs won’t be back inside Arrowhead Stadium until Nov. 4 for their next Monday Night Football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They’re set to travel to San Francisco for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the 49ers.
