Tua Tagovailoa concussion: Josh Allen reacts to Dolphins QB's scary injury on Thursday Night Football
In the Miami Dolphins’ 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion early in the second half. After the game, Bills QB Josh Allen discussed Tagovailoa’s injury and wished him a speedy recovery.
“If you know Tua outside of football, you can’t help but feel for him,” Allen said. “He’s a great football player, but he’s an even greater human being. He’s one of the best humans on the planet, and I got a lot of love for him, and I’m just praying for him and his family and hoping everything’s okay.
“It’s tough, man, this game of football that we play. It’s got its highs and it’s got its lows, and that’s definitely one of the lows.”
Tagovailoa suffered the concussion in the third quarter when he scrambled on a fourth-and-four situation and collided with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. After momentarily remaining down on the field, Tagovailoa stood and walked off the field on his own power.

He was immediately taken back to the locker room and ruled out for the game with a concussion. Although Tagovailoa didn’t miss any games in the 2023 campaign, the former Alabama standout suffered two known concussions in the 2022 season.
This concussion is Tagovailoa’s third of his NFL career. It was a slow night for Tagovailoa before he suffered the injury. He finished the game with 145 passing yards and a touchdown while throwing three interceptions.
Tagovailoa has only thrown three interceptions in a single game two other times in his NFL career. The Dolphins ultimately failed to score on their offensive drive after Tagovailoa left the game with quarterback Skylar Thompson behind center.

Former NFL team doctor weighs in on Tua Tagovailoa injury
Before Tagovailoa’s injury was officially ruled a concussion, former NFL head team doctor David J. Chao weighed in on Tagovailoa’s condition.
“We all know Tua has an injury history, concussion history,” Chao said. “Each concussion leads to potentially easier concussions. There’s no way he returns to this game the way that he got hit; the way he postured with his hand and fingers on the right side.”
When Tagovailoa went down on Thursday evening, his right hand curled into a fist and extended into the air. Although it was not as severe, the involuntary action was eerily familiar to Tagovailoa’s reaction when he suffered a concussion in September 2022.
As Chao predicted, Tagovailoa did not return to the game. However, the Dolphins reported the former All-Pro QB was conscious and had full movement of his body, which is an excellent sign. Now, Dolphins fans can only anxiously await Tagovailoa’s recovery and eventual return to the gridiron.
