The Miami Dolphins are currently down two quarterbacks: Starter Tua Tagovailoa was placed on injured reserve after he suffered another concussion against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, and backup Skylar Thompson left an ugly Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the third quarter with a rib injury.

“Here’s a team that was all in, right?” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said on “The Pat McAfee Show” Monday. “They paid Tyreek Hill. They paid Jalen Ramsey. They paid their head coach. They have some veterans. They paid Tua. They’re trying to win.

“So Tua gets hurt, and then Skylar Thompson exits with what looks like a pretty painful chest injury, doesn’t finish the game. Obviously, we’ll see if he can even make it back for next week. But even if he could, you still have to address the quarterback position before the season slips away.”

Schefter said the Dolphins have to be making phone calls for potential replacement quarterbacks. While he said he didn’t hear anything back this morning, he named three quarterbacks he believes make sense for Mike McDaniel and his Miami team.

“I think I’d call Denver and I’d say, ‘What would you want for Zach Wilson?’ I would call Pittsburgh and I would say, ‘What would you want for Russell Wilson?’ And I would call Cleveland and say, ‘What do you want for Dorian Thompson-Robinson?’ Because they have to save their season here. … Now, maybe Tyler Huntley can step in in relief here and stop the bleeding and get things back in order. … But to me, they have to look for another quarterback, too, and those would be the guys that I would be looking at if it were me.”

Last week, the Dolphins signed Huntley off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. Huntley, who most notably earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2022 after filling in for an injured Lamar Jackson that season, is a veteran backup.

But, as Schefter said, the Dolphins could add another quarterback to the mix as well. The candidates he thinks make the most sense are Zach Wilson, Russell Wilson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
