The story of Thursday Night Football quickly pivoted from the Bills once again dominating the Dolphins to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. After taking a hit while running downfield, Tagovailoa went down with a concussion, adding to his history with the injury. He was quickly ruled out by Miami following another scary moment.

Right before Buffalo kneeled the ball out, Amazon sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung provided the latest on Tagovailoa. The news was as positive as it can be at the moment, saying he has full movement of his extremities in the locker room. The entire Tagovailoa family is down there with him as well

“Guys, Tua is still in the Dolphins’ locker room,” Hartung said. “We’re told family is inside with him. We’ve seen his wife and two children, as well as his brother. We’re told he is conscious, awake and alert – just as he was when you saw him walking off this field on his own power. We’re also told he has full movement in his extremities.”

Specific family members mentioned were Tagovailoa’s parents, his wife, two kids, and brother Taulia Tagovailoa. After going through this process a couple of years ago, a scary situation for the entire family.

Tagovailoa has a lengthy history of concussions in the NFL, with his first being suffered in Week 3 of the 2022 season against Buffalo. After being cleared to play four days later, also on Thursday Night Football, an ambulance had to be brought out for Tagovailoa after taking a hit to the head vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.

His status became a big talking point around the sport, wondering how he was cleared to play in the game. The moment being in a primetime slot certainly did not help.

Last year was an injury-free one for the quarterback. He played and started in all 17 games, leading Miami to its first 11-win season since 2008 and most importantly, the NFL playoffs. Everyone was hoping similar results would take place in 2024 but there is a concussion to deal with moving forward.

Miami does have an extended period off before their next game. Playing on Thursday means an extra three days of rest for everyone on the roster. Sunday, Sept. 22 against the Seattle Seahawks will be the next time the Dolphins take the field, traveling out West.

More information about Tagovailoa will surely come when head coach Mike McDaniel speaks to the media postgame.
