Minnesota Twins shortstop Royce Lewis is probably going to experience some serious head and neck pain Monday morning. A collision at first base with Gabriel Arias of the Cleveland Guardians resulted in a frightening moment involving Lewis during Sunday’s MLB showdown.

As Lewis raced down the first base line in an attempt to beat out a throw from third, he collided with Arias. The Guardians first baseman ducked, causing Lewis to go head-over-heals in the air, landing awkwardly on his face and neck.

Video of the scary moment shows just how brutal the incident looked:

It’s kind of a miracle that Lewis didn’t require much assistance getting off the field. And, even more miraculously, he didn’t suffer a concussion. He didn’t play for the remainder of Sunday’s contest — understandably so.

Lewis reportedly suffered a cut on his forehead and was just “shaken up” on the play. After the game, the shortstop was asked how he felt.

“I felt like I ran into a car backwards,” he said, per Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com. “I’m tired of running into people and walls.”

Lewis owns a .200 batting average for the Twins this season, playing in six games and making 25 plate appearances. He has five hits, accounted for six RBIs and blasted a pair of home runs.

To add insult to injury, the Twins couldn’t get the job done in Sunday’s contest. The Guardians won a low-scoring game 2-1.

Chicago White Sox win game in bizarre walk-off fashion

Apparently, a lot of noggins are in harm’s way when it involves a team from the AL Central. Lewis was just the most recent victim.

Over the weekend, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers in the most bizarre fashion imaginable. In the bottom of the 10th inning with the bases loaded, Jose Cisnero threw a wild pitch that hit the home plate umpire directly in the facemask.

While Detroit’s players seemed confused after the play unfolded, Yoan Moncada scampered across home plate, leading the Sox to a 2-1 win over the Tigers. It was one of the wildest walk-off finishes you’ll ever see, and a scary moment that brought umpire Cory Blaser to the ground.

Sometimes, that’s just how the ball bounces.

The White Sox enjoyed a strong weekend against the Tigers, sweeping the three-game series. Chicago took Friday night’s game 3-0 before the 2-1 victory on Saturday. On Sunday, the Sox won a 6-2 contest.
