Two men have been charged with murder for the mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade last Wednesday. The shooting left 22 people injured and one woman dead.

“Both adults are charged with second-degree murder and other charges,” according to the Associated Press. “They have been hospitalized since the shooting, Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said during a news conference.

“The new charges come after two juveniles were detained last week on gun-related and resisting arrest charges. Authorities said more charges are possible. Police have said a dispute among several people led to the shooting, which happened even as 800 police officers patrolled the celebration.”

Per the Kansas City Star, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said on Tuesday, that Lyndell Mays and Dominic M. Miller each face a felony murder charge for their actions.

“Prior to the shooting, Mays was in a verbal argument with another person that he had no prior history or connection with. That argument quickly escalated and Mays drew a handgun, Baker said… Almost immediately, others, including Miller, pulled their firearms.

“Mays and Miller each have also been charged with two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. They each are being held on $1 million bond.”

Good news in Kansas City in the wake of a tragedy

On Saturday, the Children’s Mercy Hospital announced that all patients who were admitted following the shooting had been released. Children’s Mercy admitted 12 patients from the tragedy. Eleven were children, nine of which were treated for gunshot wounds.

Ever since the mass shooting, an outpouring of support across the sports world has centralized in Kansas City. Several of the Chiefs’ players, who are less than a week removed from winning the Super Bowl, have gone out of their way to reach out and help those affected by the tragedy.

Patrick and Brittany Mahomes are certainly doing their part to lift victims’ spirits. Malik Jackson, a reporter for the Fox affiliate in Kansas City, posted photos of the Mahomes’ visit with two of the hospitalized children.

The two sisters, ages 8 and 10, suffered leg injuries. They are the cousins of the woman who died in the shooting. The family released a statement thanking everyone for their help.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, who is Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s girlfriend, donated $100,000 to a GoFundMe memorial campaign for Elizabeth Lopez-Galvan, the 44-year-old mother of two who died at the scenes after being shot in the abdomen.

Her family set up the GoFundMe with a goal of $75,000. By early afternoon Friday, the fund approached $300,000. Swift attended the Super Bowl, her 13th Chiefs game of the year, but not the parade. She flew to Australia to continue her Eras concert tour.
