This weekend as NASCAR makes its return after the off week, Ty Gibbs and other Cup Series drivers will run double duty. Gibbs, along with AJ Allmendinger and Ty Dillon, will be racing in both the Xfinity and Cup races. This weekend’s Truck Series race is part of the Triple Truck Challenge, so non-truck drivers will not be allowed in that race.

As for the Tennessee Lottery 250 and the Ally 400, both races feature stacked fields. Ty Gibbs, the leading Cup Series rookie, is going back down to the Xfinity Series where he won a championship a year ago.

As for Dillon and Allmendinger, it is a chance to get some extra laps after the off week and potentially go trophy hunting. That Kaulig No. 10 car has been impressive this season.

There is no listed sponsor for Dillon in the JD Motorsports No. 4 Chevy on the entry list for the Tennessee Lottery 250.

Both AJ Allmendinger and Ty Gibbs raced the Xfinity Series race at Sonoma as well. They are two drivers that aren’t afraid to get some extra laps in during the NASCAR weekend. There is a very good chance we see one of them in Victory Lane on Saturday.

Xfinity Series regulars will do their best to fight off the Cup Series talent. Cole Custer and Justin Allgaier picked up wins at Portland and Charlotte in the last two of the last three races.

Other notable names are Connor Mosack, Zane Smith, Ryan Ellis, Sage Karam, Carson Hocevar, and Chad Chastain. Brennan Poole will also race in both the Cup and Xfinity Series.

Ty Gibbs continues dominance over fellow rookie

This season, the Cup Series Rookie of the Year race has gotten ugly. Noah Gragson just hasn’t been able to perform to the level that many hoped and expected. So, Ty Gibbs is running away with the award as of right now.

There was a stretch back in March and April where Gibbs posted four straight top-10 finishes. He was impressive from Atlanta to the Bristol Dirt Race. Since then, he has struggled a bit. He has posted a top-15 finish, some DNFs, and mostly hovered around that top-20 area.

Right now, Ty Gibbs sits at 18th overall in the points standings with 320 points. He is just 11 points off the top-16 and making his way into the playoffs in his first full-time season in the Cup Series.

Meanwhile, Noah Gragson is coming off a concussion-like symptoms injury that took him out of the Sonoma race. Gragson is 33rd in the points standings and trails even Ty Dillon. Gragson’s best finish of the year came at Atlanta, P12. Then he posted a P20 at COTA. Since then, Gragson has failed to finish better than P26. It’s been a hard season for the LEGACY M.C. rookie.
