The team of Ty Gibbs was the fastest on the pit stop, bringing home $100,000 and getting their driver the pole in the All-Star Open. It was extra special when Gibbs not only thanked his team but thanked them all by name, individually. Major points for the young NASCAR driver.

The Toyota pit crews have proven that they have speed. They might not get highlighted week in and out, but these crews do the dirty work. If we learned anything from this Pit Crew Challenge, it was that one simple mistake could sink you.

When you see your favorite driver lose two or three spots on pit road, it really is a matter of tenths of a second. Watching a pit crew like the No. 54 team hit every mark right, and their driver pulls through with a great stop – it is poetry in motion.

The move into the box was perfect. His crew didn’t have to chase him, and everyone did their part. Huge stop for Ty Gibbs, and I’m sure his pit crew will work a little harder for him after this big payday.

The weekend is off to a great start for the 54 team. It will take a huge effort, but Ty Gibbs could have a bigger weekend. He will have to race in the All-Star Open and hope he makes the main event.

Ty Gibbs helps get his team win $100k

While everyone talks about the $1,000,000 prize up for grabs on Sunday, the Pit Crew Challenge also had a big payoff. Watching the pit crews compete showed that there really isn’t much difference between a good and a great stop. One slip is all it takes.

There were some impressive performances. We saw Chase Elliott’s team put together a stop that looked like the one to beat. Those Hendrick Motorsports crews are the real deal. What made it even better was waiting for the wheel checks. Making sure those wheels were put on tight.

There were teams that put out top-10 stops that found out they had a loose wheel afterward. Those left rears were the biggest issue. Teams slipped around, drivers shorted the box, and there were a lot of things that could and did go wrong.

However, those guys on Ty Gibbs’ crew put together a perfect performance and laid down a 13.01-second stop. That team is looking like they are firing on all cylinders. No surprise that Gibbs has so many top-10 finishes this season. The rookie has a great team behind him.
