Well, Ty Gibbs and his team are likely looking at a penalty next week. Gibbs had a wheel come loose, which likely caused him to blow the tire. The NASCAR rookie’s crew tried to get their driver off of pit road quickly, it might have been too quickly.

Ty Gibbs went up and into the wall, bringing out the caution with about 50 laps to go in the South Point 400. The NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year (unofficially official) was racing hard on the restart. Then, he was up and into the wall.

Teams have had tire issues all day. However, this was a little different. Once Gibbs came off the wall, it was clear his wheel was loose and cut the tire. The wheel and tire went bouncing up and down the track afterward.

Ty Gibbs will be held two laps for the loose wheel on the track and his team will lose a crew member for two weeks.

Things didn’t stop there for Gibbs. It wasn’t long before he was back on pit road with smoke coming from his right front tire. It was a strange moment as he had to find his way back to his pit box for almost the exact same reason.

Since Ty Gibbs made it to pit road, there was no caution the second time around. However, the team is going to have to figure things out if they want to finish this race. Gibbs has a lot of promise, but this race is not going his way this afternoon.

You would like to see the team finish this race out. Fixing that right front issue is going to be the only thing the team should worry about. If he can’t make it a few laps without a flat then how is he going to make it to the end of this South Point 400?
