Bad news for defending Snowball Derby winner Ty Majeski. A chunk of asphalt came off the track and damaged his car. The NASCAR Truck Series champion is looking to become the second three-time winner in the history of the race.

The track at Five Flags Speedway has cracks and character. Unfortunately, too much character. A piece of the track did damage to the nose and duct work of the No. 91 according to Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut.

Weaver is at Five Flags with his Short Track Scene crew. He reported on the damage to Majeski’s car. You can see it in these images.

The Snowball Derby is one of the biggest races of the season for super late models. Drivers from all over the country, including a number of NASCAR talents have come to Pensacola, Florida to try and win the Derby.

Right now, practice day has been marred by rain and the track falling to pieces. Ty Majeski is hoping to cap off his run from 2023 to 2024 with another Snowball Derby victory, but right now his crew is putting his car back together.

Drivers like Noah Gragson and Bubba Pollard will likely qualify for the big show this weekend. Pollard is teammates with Sammy Smith for the Derby in his quest to conquer this race.

Racing is one big community and it thankfully looks like Ty Majeski is getting help from his fellow drivers and teams. Hopefully, this won’t sink his chances of competing.

Ty Majeski on potential history

With history on the line, Ty Majeski is ready to go out and make it happen. Another Snowball win would be major, solidifying Majeski as one of the best short-track racers in the country.

“I think this is year 11. So, yeah we’ve had a lot of ups and downs here,” the 2024 Truck Series champion said to Rob Blount of FloRacing. “I just love the challenge of coming down here. No matter if you’re the reigning champion or not, you know, you come down here with a clean slate and it’s so hard to come down here and be competitive year in and year out.”

Majeski then touched on the history aspect of his run this year in 2024.

“I didn’t know that, that’s crazy. Um, you know, it would be special, you know? My guys and I have been together I think this is our 13th year together now,” Majeski continued. “We love doing this together and that’s why we keep coming down here. We love the camaraderie, we have a great group of guys, and it’s fun for us. When it starts not to become fun you probably won’t see us back here. We love doing this together.”
