Tyler Allen reacts to being named Ty Gibbs' crew chief for 2025 NASCAR season
Next NASCAR season, Ty Gibbs will be working with Tyler Allen on his pit box. It will be Allen’s rookie year as a Cup Series crew chief. So, what does the Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief think about his new role?
Chris Gabehart made a surprising move from Denny Hamlin’s crew chief to the competition director at JGR. So, people have been shuffled around. Chris Gayle is now with the 11 team after spending two years with Ty Gibbs on the 54 car.
JGR released the news on Monday. Now, a day later, Tyler Allen is talking about his new job. Of course, he’s ready to get to work, and he’s no stranger to the Cup Series.
“It’s the next level. Like I said, only being a year removed I still remember what it was like to be working on the Cup cars and the schedule and all of the details that are important,” Allen said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “So, it’s really just about getting settled in, getting people in place and try to hit the ground running. I think Ty’s really excited, I’m excited to work with him. So, just getting back in the game.”
Ty Gibbs hasn’t won in the Cup Series yet. In his third full-time season, Gibbs will be looking to break that barrier with Allen as crew chief. Both driver and crew chief have had a ton of success in the Xfinity Series, now they will try to apply it to the next level, as Allen put it.

Tyler Allen, Ty Gibbs looking for fresh start
That wasn’t the only thing Allen said in his interview. He was then asked about his relationship with Ty Gibbs. The two had previously worked together once before at Charlotte. But don’t get confused, this is a new relationship.
“It’s a relatively fresh start, and I think that’s kind of what he’s looking for, and I’m certainly excited about it,” Allen explained. “You know, this is work. We met today and talked about a bunch of things, but these are our careers and it’s definitely a professional relationship. And I think overtime that that will grow into a more personal and good friendship, overall. We’re here to go to work, we’re here to win races and I think we’re both on the same page with that.”
Allen is the crew chief that led the No. 20 Xfinity Series team to eight wins with four drivers, and a regular season owners championship. So, he knows what he is doing. But the biggest step in NASCAR is the one between the Xfinity and Cup Series garages.
Next season Ty Gibbs will be fired up to win. His new crew chief has to give him the tools to do so. Even though Gibbs is young, he is seen as a future star of this sport, and one who could become champion in the not-so-distant future.
