Tyler Higbee injury update: Rams HC Sean McVay reveals alarming details about TE’s hospitalization
Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee was hospitalized after leaving the Wild Card playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, and head coach Sean McVay shared an update on his injury. McVay told reporters that Higbee was spitting up blood last night after suffering a chest injury.
“Rams TE Tyler Higbee was spitting up a little blood last night and that’s why he was sent to the hospital, per Sean McVay, who said Higbee traveled home with the team and incredibly expects to play against the Eagles this Sunday,” NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo wrote on X.
Having Tyler Higbee for the Rams’ Divisional Round playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles is huge as he finished Monday night as the team’s leading receiver with five catches for 58 yards. Monday’s game was played in Arizona, and after Higbee was hospitalized, he traveled back to Los Angeles with the Rams.
Higbee, 32, was activated off of reserve/physically unable to perform in mid-December after he tore his ACL and MCL during the Rams’ playoff loss to the Detroit Lions last year.

Tyler Higbee has battled back from a major injury
“Some days aren’t always the best, but just kept showing up and going to work. Those guys, our training staff, is the best in the business from my understanding,” Higbee said before making his 2024 debut last month, per the Rams’ official website. “It’s obviously the only ones that I’ve been around, but hearing from other people and other places, they’re the best in the business.
“Being able to work with (Vice President, Sports Medicine and Performance) Reggie (Scott) and (Director of Sports Medicine) Byron (Cunningham) and the collective staff in there to be able to come in here and work every day, even when not everyone was showing up, when we were in Cal-Lu (the Rams’ old practice facility location) and packing stuff up and moving and stuff was saran-wrapped in boxes, we’re pulling stuff out of boxes to get our rehab in.”
Higbee has been with the Rams since the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 draft. In 127 career games, Higbee has caught 361 passes for 3,668 yards and 24 touchdowns. Higbee helped the Rams win the Super Bowl during the 2021 season.
