Tyler Higbee injury update: Sean McVay reveals Rams TE hospitalized, condition
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay shared an update on tight end Tyler Higbee who suffered a chest injury during the Wild Card playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. McVay told reporters that Higbee is at the hospital and in stable condition.
“I think he’s going to be ok,” McVay said, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Higbee suffered the injury early in the second quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the game. He finished the game with five receptions for 58 yards, and the Rams went on to beat the Vikings 27-9.
This was only the fourth game Higbee has played this season as he suffered a torn ACL and MCL during the Rams’ loss to the Detroit Lions in the Wild Card round of the playoffs last year. In his three regular-season games, the former Western Kentucky star caught eight passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
Tyler Higbee talks ‘long journey’ of ACL and MCL recovery
“It’s been a long journey,” Higbee said before he made his 2024 debut on Dec. 22 against the New York Jets, per the Rams’ official website. “Some days aren’t always the best, but just kept showing up and going to work. Those guys, our training staff, is the best in the business from my understanding. It’s obviously the only ones that I’ve been around, but hearing from other people and other places, they’re the best in the business.

“Being able to work with (Vice President, Sports Medicine and Performance) Reggie (Scott) and (Director of Sports Medicine) Byron (Cunningham) and the collective staff in there to be able to come in here and work every day, even when not everyone was showing up, when we were in Cal-Lu (the Rams’ old practice facility location) and packing stuff up and moving and stuff was saran-wrapped in boxes, we’re pulling stuff out of boxes to get our rehab in. Sometimes it was just me and Byron at the facility and nobody else was here, vacations, whatever days off, whatever it was, we were in here working. Big credit to those guys (who) helped me get back. The work has got us here.”
The Rams selected Higbee in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In his career, Higbee has caught 361 passes for 3,668 yards and 24 touchdowns and helped the Rams win the Super Bowl during the 2021 season.
