Tyler Reddick won at Kansas on a final overtime restart and it was a heck of a show for NASCAR fans watching in the stands and at home. Taking four tires on the final pit stop like his boss Denny Hamlin, Reddick managed to shoot to the bottom of the track and zip by the drivers who took two tires on the stop.

It all happened so fast, it was hard to really tell what happened at first. Erik Jones and Joey Logano and Kyle Larson all looked like they could win this race on that restart. Then, Tyler Reddick came bursting through a hole on the bottom lane, and took the lead coming to the white flag.

From there, he was able to just drive away and keep the distance between himself and Denny Hamlin.

So, how did that all work out from Reddick’s perspective? He talked with NASCAR SiriusXM after the race and broke it down. Sometimes in racing, you catch a lucky break.

“Just drove it down in there and it stuck, right?” Reddick said on the radio. “We just did a good job of finding the hole and finding the open space. Hats off to my team, two tires has typically been the right call, but I think this place’s fall-off was trending in the direction where that was a little aggressive with the amount of laps that we ran.

“We did a good job by sticking with the right strategy and then we just got fortunate. People lined up in some odd places I think and it just opened up us to get to the bottom on that restart, get on the inside lane and jump a couple of rows. So it worked out good.”

Tyler Reddick advances to the Round of 12

With his win, Tyler Reddick gets an auto-bid into the Round of 12. He joins Kyle Larson as the only two drivers locked into the second round at the moment. There will be a number of teams that clinch a spot on points at Bristol next week. However, one driver will be lucky enough to win and earn their spot in the postseason.

Reddick can be an up-and-down kind of driver. He has had some rough spots this season and his team has made mistakes that have cost them wins in the past. On Sunday, the 45 team was almost as perfect as you can be. A lot different from Bubba Wallace’s day.

Before his win on Sunday, Reddick’s best finish at Kansas was P7 back in 2021. He had three top-10s at the track heading into this race and a pole award. Now, he’s a winner in the Sunflower State on what might be NASCAR’s best track on the circuit right now.

For Tyler Reddick and his team, this is a major moment. They put together an entire race and this time, they won one they probably shouldn’t have. That helps make up for all of those missed calls and shortcomings from earlier this year.
