Tyler Reddick missed out on another opportunity to win a NASCAR Cup Series race, finishing second in the Grant Park 165 on Sunday. After the race, Reddick spoke to NBC Sports about trying to catch up to race winner Alex Bowman before hitting the wall during the final lap of the race.

“We were catching Alex by a large margin there,” Reddick said. “I don’t know. That puzzles me. I clearly just screwed up. Trying to stay in the dry groove and I had more than enough room of dry groove as I’m seeing right behind you. Cut the wheel a little too hard. Just not focused enough, I guess.

“I knew I was going to get to him. I knew the earlier I get to him, the more options I was going to have. It was going to get more slick offline beyond Turn 8. Just didn’t even give ourselves a shot to race him unfortunately with that. …Not what this Jordan-brand Toyota Camry is about. It’s not what this team’s about. We’ve got to start capitalizing, getting these wins.”

Tyler Reddick has missed several opportunites this year

Reddick, 28, is playoff-bound as he won the Talladega race in April. However, there have been plenty of times this season where Reddick missed out on winning a race. Last week, Reddick finished third in Nashville. In the third race of the year in Las Vegas, Reddick finished second behind Kyle Larson. He has also finished fourth three different times, so it’s understandable for Reddick to be a little frustrated.

Following the Nashville race, Reddick talked about what led to his P3 finish. “I don’t know if we just missed the adjustment a little bit, didn’t adjust enough, but from that point on to when the race ended there we were just too tight,” Reddick said on the Actions Detrimental podcast when talking about a restart with around 60 to 70 laps to go. “Coludn’t make moves, couldn’t go anywhere, so that was frustrating for sure.”

Reddick is in his second year with 23XI Racing and has driven well. In 2023, the two-time Xfinity Series champion finished sixth in the Cup Series standings and won two races during the year. Currently, Reddick has finished in the top 10 in six of his last seven races. And of these six races, Reddkcik has finished in the top five in five of them.
