Ty Gibbs told his team they better keep him away “from that little f***er” Tyler Reddick after Sunday’s race at Martinsville following their contact on Lap 298. But it was Reddick who sought him out after the race.

The two had what appeared to be a civil chat on pit road. They talked for nearly a minute and Gibbs left without comment, per Toby Christie of Racing America.

Gibbs was putting together his best race of the season on Sunday, until he went sideways after contact with Reddick. Gibbs clearly thought Reddick dumped him, threatening to fight him.

“You’d better keep me away from that little f***er [Reddick] after this race, too,” Gibbs told his team.

Gibbs, running 11th at the time, went into Turns 1 and 2 a couple car lengths ahead of Reddick. But Gibbs came in a bit high and gave enough room for Reddick to come down the bottom. The two made contact and Gibbs went around.

Reddick told his team he tried to lift for Gibbs, but Austin Dillon — running behind him — didn’t get the memo. Gibbs’ team agreed with Reddick’s assessment.

“Normal deal. He stuck his nose and then the 3 was just piling through him from behind,” Gibbs was told over the radio, per Jeff Gluck of The Athletic. “Nothing you can do about it.”

Gibbs recovered quickly, flirting with the top 10 for the remainder of the race. Right behind him was Reddick, who stayed clear of Gibbs. The two raced each other clean all the way to the checkered flag. Gibbs finished 13th, Reddick 14th.

Gibbs needed that, given his start to the 2025 season. He entered Sunday’s race 34th in the points standings, with five finishes outside the top 20 and a pair of DNFs. Gibbs was better — much better — at Martinsville, and he was rewarded with a quality finish.

Perhaps this is just what the No. 54 team needs to get its season back on track. But it still seems unlikely Gibbs will be able to point his way into the playoffs, even with plenty of regular season to go. Gibbs needs to win and will need more speed to accomplish that.
