In the middle of the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, Tyler Reddick told his team that he was feeling sick. The NASCAR regular season champion raced all night with a stomach bug.

During the race, Tyler Reddick was asked if he felt like he would get physically sick in the car. He was getting crackers and medicine and water whenever possible on pit stops. When asked about throwing up, Reddick seemed to confirm that he felt like he was going to.

In fact Reddick said he was “throwing up, sh***ing myself, all of the above.”

Well, turns out, he wasn’t being literal. Maybe he only felt like he was going to get ill, but was able to hold it all together thanks to his team.

“Just really thankful that a lot of great people on our team,” Reddick said to the media after the race. “They were feeding me the right stuff in the car to help me manage it best as I could. Just smart people. Able to put the right stuff in my drink to help calm my stomach down. At one point, I was just waiting to puke all over myself. Thankfully they kept that from happening. A whole lot of other gross stuff.

“We were able to avoid a lot of that, which was nice, but it was extremely uncomfortable in the car all night.”

When asked about “the other end” Reddick confirmed he avoided that as well.

“I held on for dear life all night,” the 23XI Racing driver said.

Tyler Reddick even took medicine at the care center this weekend hoping to speed up the process.

“I actually really just wanted to get it out because it was really, really bad. I took some Imodium at the infield care center earlier. That was the worse thing for me because I couldn’t get anything out that I wanted. It was just a rough night.”

At one point in the race, things really did not look good for Tyler Reddick. However, he was able to hold on, to his bodily fluids and to his points lead. One point separated Reddick from Kyle Larson taking his championship from under his nose.

Reddick ended the night without soiling himself. He also walks away with the regular season championship and ANOTHER top-10 performance. That makes 11 of the last 13 races in the top-10, including the win at Michigan and six other top-5 finishes.

The push from Charlotte to now is exactly why Tyler Reddick is a regular-season champion. Now, he races for the Bill France Cup. Will Reddick make it to Phoenix?
