Tyler Reddick shares health update after fighting through illness in Southern 500

Last night in the Southern 500, Tyler Reddick channeled his team owner Michael Jordan and had his own “flu game” of sorts. At one point in the race, it sounded like the NASCAR driver had made a mess all over himself.
During the race at Darlington, Tyler Reddick was desperate. He felt like he was going to get sick and had his team handing him snacks and medicine to keep his stomach settled.
At one point on the radio, he was asked if he was worried about being physically sick. Reddick confirmed that he was worried by saying he was “throwing up” and “sh***ing” himself.
“Well I wasn’t going to by choice park it, I was worried that the end of Stage 1 there when it finally ended, I was having to focus more on having to hold back puke than driving the car and I was just worried I was going to just start puking and not be able to drive and crash and end my way that way, just by crashing,” Reddick explained on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio today. “Because like, I don’t know. I’ve never been able to really, for those that have puked right? I feel like it’s pretty hard to puke and do something else at the same time so I was just worried my day was going to end that way because of that. I was fighting that and then I think it was got a little confused on the radio.”
Reddick mentioned that he had a rough night on Sunday after the race. His body was seizing up until the early morning and he was in a ton of pain.

Thankfully, it was just confusion. There were memes and jokes all over social media. But Tyler Reddick kept all of his fluids inside of his body on Sunday.

“I think I told them I was going to need something or I was going to be doing both,” Reddick continued. “I think it got misunderstood as I was already doing both. Which, I mean within five minutes of when I said that if I didn’t get something in my stomach to calm it down I wouldn’t be surprised if I started doing both but yeah it was, gosh, it was rough, man. I just hate it because that’s one of my best tracks and I couldn’t even really do my part as a driver, I was more worried about just trying to keep whatever it was in my stomach down and just, it was, not good.”
What a gutsy performance from Reddick. Genuinely, one of the best performances of the night all things considered. P10 after almost soiling himself – that’s something to be proud of.
Late in the race, Tyler Reddick fell off a bit. It was hard to tell if it was his car or himself, physically. When the checkered flag waved, Reddick beat Larson by a single point for the regular season championship. Wild weekend for 23XI Racing. Reddick’s teammate did not fare as well.
Bubba Wallace missed out on the playoffs. So, it’s up to Reddick to deliver a NASCAR championship to Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan. Playoff time.
