What a race for Tyler Reddick! He wins it in overtime, outlasting William Byron on the final overtime restart in Michigan. Days after his mentor, Scott Bloomquist, died in a plane accident, Reddick is on top of the NASCAR Cup Series once more.
When the race restarted for this Monday morning, Tyler Reddick was not a winning driver in a winning car. P6 to P20. Then he and his team were patient. Adjustment here and an adjustment there got them to Victory Lane.
Reddick dedicated the win to Bloomquist on the frontstretch after an epic burnout.
Tyler Reddick was fast on Sunday. Something did not line up when things restarted Monday morning. But you have to credit this 23XI Racing team with putting together a complete race.
It took the entire team and crew in order to get this win today. Reddick had to find that speed again and by the end of the race, it was clear that he had the fastest car on the track.
Sunday afternoon gets rained out
Of course, this race took place over the last two days. It was more or less Stage 1 on Sunday and then Stages 2 and 3 today to finish things up. As I mentioned, Tyler Reddick was fast early, but not the fastest.
A top-five car early in the race, Reddick trailed his teammate Bubba Wallace as well as his owner Denny Hamlin and Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson. It was a fun and interesting first stage in Michigan.
With how the caution fell at the end of the stage, the leaders pitted before the end of the first stint. That allowed Ryan Blaney to win the stage and bank another playoff point ahead of the postseason.
Kyle Larson causes the big one at Michigan
The racing got back going again this morning and that meant a sunny day with lots of passing. This Next Gen car is built for Michigan and intermediate tracks like it.
Kyle Larson and others were playing the pit strategy game. With a few flat tires causing a caution flag, it meant that the field was lining up again for a restart. It was going to be a race for the end of the stage, until it wasn’t.

Getting loose in the middle of the field, Larson spun around and into a pack of cars. Bubba Wallace took heavy damage. Chris Buescher was involved, and so were half a dozen others. Larson was taken out of the race completely.
This set us up for an interesting points battle for the regular season championship as well as the final few playoff spots.
Tyler Reddick wins in overtime at Michigan
This race had about everything. Rain delay, postponed, Monday racing, a big wreck, and even a blowover! Corey LaJoie flipped during this race, and he was released from the care center with no issues, thankfully.
As the pit strategies played out, it appeared to be a battle between Chase Elliott and William Byron. Then, things slowly started to change. Tyler Reddick made his final pit stop and was able to put himself out in front of the leaders.
Reddick was able to pull himself ahead by three seconds. His car was on fire late, and no literally, it was just fast as hell. There appeared to be no stopping him, and then the caution fell for the final time.
Martin Truex Jr. hit the wall and that meant we had to have one final restart. Despite a strong launch and a good effort, Byron was unable to stop Tyler Reddick. It was a close finish, but one that Reddick had complete control of as he came to the finish line.
