Tyreek Hill calls for immediate termination of Miami-Dade Police officer that escalated traffic stop
Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill is calling for the firing of a Miami-Dade police officer stemming from his Sunday detainment for a speeding violation.
Hill’s attorney, Julius Collins, released a statement on his client’s behalf Tuesday “demanding” that the officer who was placed on administrative duties be “terminated effective immediately.”
“Each action that a law enforcement official take is governed by standard operating procedures,” the statement read, via Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN. “We are of the opinion that the officer’s use of force was excessive, escalating, and reckless. We are demanding that the officer be terminated effective immediately.”
The officer has been identified as Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department. After Hill was pulled over roughly three hours before the Dolphins’ Week 1 home contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Torres forcibly removed Hill from his car after he handed over his license and then rolled up his window, as shown on the body cam footage of the incident.
Officers had threatened Hill to roll it back down or they would remove him from the car themselves. Hill told CNN on Monday that he rolled his window back up because he didn’t want to cause a scene.

Miami-Dade police officer involved in Tyreek Hill detainment seeking reinstatement
After Torres removed Hill from the car, he handcuffed him while kneeling on his back. About a minute later, Torres once again forced Hill to the ground after he was instructed to sit down on the sidewalk. After Hill told the officers he had just undergone knee surgery, Torres “ignored his statement and continued his escalation in his use of force.”
“The events that occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2024, are just a reminder of the realities of the many injustices that people of black and minority communities face at the hands of law enforcement,” the statement read. “While we are in no way accusing the officer of being racist, we are accusing the customs and practices of law enforcement from a historical standpoint of being discriminatory and oppressive to black and minority communities. We cannot ignore this fact and remain silent on the issue just because it’s a tough conversation.”

Hill was cited for speeding at a “visual estimation of 60 mph.” He also received a citation for not wearing a seatbelt and careless driving.
Torres, meanwhile, is seeking reinstatement. Attorneys Ignacio Alvarez of ALGO Law Firm and Israel Reyes of The Reyes Law Firm, who are representing him, called the decision to place their client on administrative duties “premature.”
“We urge all parties to refrain from making public statements that may misrepresent our client’s actions and mislead the public about Mr. Hill’s detainment,” Alvarez said in a statement.
Alvarez and Reyes added they “fully support” Miami-Dade Police Department director Stephanie Daniels’ call for a thorough review of the incident.
