Tyreek Hill fined $7k for not wearing socks against Broncos
Tyreek Hill‘s reluctance to wear socks during Miami’s Week 3 game against Denver will cost him a pretty penny. The NFL is fining the Dolphins wide receiver $7,000 for going onto the field without them.
Hill explained the situation while speaking with The Palm Beach Post.
“I got fined, though, for my socks,” he said. “So, in the Broncos game, the first touchdown, I didn’t have any socks on at all. But I was getting an IV and I didn’t want to be late for the play. So I didn’t have time to put on my socks.”
Apparently, the NFL takes its equipment infractions quite seriously. A $7,000 fine for not wearing socks seems a bit … excessive. But Hill plans to fight back against the hefty penalty.
“I’m appealing and when I appeal it’s probably going to get reduced,” Hill said.
Maybe Hill should get a bonus for playing without socks. If you’ll recall, Miami’s game against Denver was the one of historic proportions. The Dolphins embarrassed the Broncos in a 70-20 contest, one of the highest-scoring games in the league’s lifespan.
Hill finished the game with 157 yards and a touchdown on nine catches. He averaged an impressive 17.4 yards per catch in the victory. And, apparently, he did some of that without having to wear socks.
I’m guessing that makes Sean Payton and the rest of the Broncos feel even better about their performance in Week 3.

Tyreek Hill putting up monster numbers already
Socks or no socks, Hill has put up some big numbers through the first four weeks of the NFL season. It’s a big reason why the Dolphins are off to a 3-1 start.
Through four games, Hill has totaled 28 catches for 470 yards and four touchdowns. He leads Miami in all three statistical category, more than doubling anyone else on the team in each area.
Hill’s 470 yards currently ranks third among NFL receivers currently, behind only Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson (543) and Los Angeles Rams star Puka Nacua (501).
Miami got off to a hot 3-0 start in 2023. It posted wins over the Chargers, Patriots and Broncos before dropping its first game to the Bills in Week 4. But the Dolphins have a great chance to get back in the win column this week.
The Dolphins host the Giants (1-3) on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game airs on FOX.
