Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill gave his account of what transpired when Miami-Dade police pulled him over Sunday for a speeding violation during a Monday appearance on CNN.

As the body cam footage released by the Miami-Dade Police Department showed, multiple officers removed Hill from his car after he handed over his license and then rolled up his window. Officers threatened Hill to roll it back down or they would remove him from the car themselves. Hill told Kaitlan Collins that he rolled his window back up because he didn’t want to cause a scene and create a situation where people driving and walking by would start taking pictures of him.

“When the officer came up and knocked on my window, I let my window down. Cooperated, gave them my ID and then I immediately let up my window,” Hill said. “And then after that, I let back up my window. And then he came back to the window and was like, ‘Let your window down now. Let your window down now.’ And then I let it down and that’s when he said, ‘If you don’t let your window down, I’m gonna snatch you out the car.’ I was like, ‘Sir, my window is down like what do you want?’

“I’m not trying to cause a scene. Because if I let my window down, people driving by, walking by, they’re gonna notice that it’s me. And they gonna start taking pictures and I didn’t wanna create a scene at all. Like, I just really wanted to get the ticket and then just go on about my way. And then just have a great Sunday. I really could have just kept going to the stadium. But I really just pulled to the side just chilling because I was that close to the stadium. I was that close to the players entry level.

“From that moment, the guy came from the back. And he was like, ‘Hey, I’m about to snatch you out the car.’ And then, it just all unfolded from there because I was fixing to get out of my car because they told me to get out. I was getting out my car but the way that my car made, it’s like a dip inside the McLaren.”

After Hill opened his car door, multiple officers removed him from the car and tossed him to the ground. Hill, presumably on the phone with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said, ‘Hey, Drew, I’m getting arrested.” Hill told the officers to take him to jail, in which one replied, “We are, we will.”

Defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who arrived at the scene as Hill was in handcuffs, was approached by an officer and told to leave. After a brief back and forth exchange, an officer placed Campbell in handcuffs. Campbell, who did not receive a citation, said he was detained for “disobeying a direct order.” Tight end Jonnu Smith was also at the scene, repeatedly told by police to get back in his car and drive away. One officer threatened to give him a ticket. Hill received a citation for careless driving and a seatbelt violation.

Miami Dolphins call for ‘swift and strong action’ against officers involved in Tyreek Hill detainment

The Dolphins released a statement Monday calling for “swift and strong action” against the officers involved. The team referred to the actions taken by officers as “despicable behavior.”

“It is both maddening and heartbreaking to watch the very people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility towards these players, yet it is also a reminder that not every situation like this ends in peace, as we are grateful this one did,” the statement reads. “‘What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?’ is a question that will carry with resounding impact.”

Hill hauled in seven receptions for 130 yards and a score in Miami’s 20-17 Week 1 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
