Tyreek Hill injury update: NFL insider reveals troubling reality for Dolphins WR
Tyreek Hill hasn’t been the sure-fire top receiver we’ve seen over the course of his NFL career, and some of the pieces of the puzzle as to why are starting to come together.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Hill has a wrist injury that’s been limiting him at practice over the last week, but he’s not expecting to undergo surgery until after the 2024 season ends, planning to play through the pain for the Miami Dolphins.
“Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill said he may undergo surgery on a wrist injury that limited him at practice last week, but any procedure wouldn’t be until after the 2024 season ends,” Schefter posted on X.
Moreover, Schefter’s ESPN colleague Marcel Louis-Jacques noted “Hill said he first injured his wrist in August, during a joint practice with the Washington Commanders. The injury worsened over the first nine weeks of the season, to a point where Hill was held out of the Dolphins’ final two practices of Week 10 and carried a questionable tag into Miami’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
“The league’s leading receiver from a season ago said he declined surgery and will play through the pain.”
On the season, Hill hasn’t exactly accumulated his gaudy usual numbers, amassing 37 receptions for 462 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Evidently, his wrist injury, coupled with spotty quarterback play during the absence of Tua Tagovailoa, has contributed to his uneven campaign.

Still, he’s not making any excuses: At the end of the day, I just got to suck it up and just deal with the pain,” Hill said, via Louis-Jacques. “It’s going to get worse the more I play, but I got to [gut] it out for my team. I’m here, I’m locked in no matter what, no matter how I feel. So even if I’ve got to cut my wrist off, I’m still out there because I love the game of football.
“Surgery was brought up and it was talked about whenever I talked to a few of the doctors, but it’s my call at the end of the day, and my call is to stay out on the field.”
Alas, Tyreek Hill didn’t fully commit to surgery after the season, but he stated he’d be “in a good space to make that decision” when the time comes, per ESPN.
Time will tell what the wide receiver decides, but it’s obviously important to him to be on the field for his Miami Dolphins teammates, as they look to make a late, miraculous run at the playoffs in 2024.
