Tyreek Hill, now that he’s in his second season with the Dolphins, has amped up his goals. He thinks there’s no reason why he can’t set an NFL record.

So check and see if Hill can do 2,000 in 2023.

Now, it is June. The season doesn’t start for another three months. These next few weeks can be a contemplative time as players think about what’s possible based on their own health and who they have around them. But that’s not Tyreek Hill’s style. He’s going for a clean number — 2,000 receiving yards. And that would be an NFL record.

Hill has done some thinking. He realizes he’s got 17 games to achieve a benchmark like no other receiver before him. And 2,000 is such a clean number..

So can 2,000 go down in 2023?

“Oh yeah, for sure.” Tyreek Hill told reporters, Thursday, on the last Dolphins team practice before training camp starts late next month. “I think the added game gives me quite the advantage, so yeah.”

Rams sensation Cooper Kupp approached 2,000 back in 2021, when LA was on its way to a Super Bowl. It also was the first season that all league teams played 17 games. Kupp, who had incredible on-field chemistry with Matthew Stafford, totaled 1,947 yards.

Coincidentally, Stafford had a hand in the NFL receiving record. After all, he was the guy throwing the passes to Calvin Johnson, aka Megatron, back in 2012. Johnson owns the league record, although he set it as his team struggled to win games.

Let’s take a look at the top five best seasons for a receiver. Tyreek Hill, at a minimum, wants to see his name there.

Tyreek Hill played most of his career with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, he’s moved onto the Dolphins with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. It would help his quest for 2,000 immensely if Tua can stay healthy. The former Alabama star seemed to be on his way to a breakout season in 2022. But he suffered at least two concussions, which kept him out of four games and the post season.

Still, Hill enjoyed his most prolific season to date while breaking a major Dolphins’ record. He caught 119 passes for 1,710 yards. Mark Clayton had owned the receptions record for 38 years, back when he was catching passes from future Hall of Famer Dan Marino.

Tyreek Hill has figured out how he can accomplish that 2,000.

“For me, not getting injured, coming in each and every day wanting to get better, wanting to be coached,” Hill said. “And I feel like I’ve got the right tools around me.

“I’ve got obviously the most accurate quarterback in the NFL, I’ve got one of the best head coaches in the NFL, and also my position coach is a monster also. So just having those three things and me just keeping the same mindset each and every day that I want to get better and I want to break the record, and I do want to break the record. So I feel like this is one of those years that I can achieve it.”
