The Philadelphia 76ers have had more injuries to deal with than just about any team this season in the NBA. They now have another notable one with just six games to go, in Tyrese Maxey.

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Philadelphia star will be done for the season due to a finger injury. He hasn’t played in a month, and since he is still “dealing with discomfort and needs treatment,” shutting him down appears to be the way they’re going about it.

“Sources tell me Tyrese Maxey is expected to be ruled out for remainder of the season with a finger tendon injury. He’s been out since March 3rd. Of course, with just six games left in the season, it was somewhat unlikely we’d see him play again,” Charania said live as he shared the news while on First Take. “Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports, has actually just confirmed this news to me as well so he is out for the season. The 76ers actually pushed for Maxey to come back at some point this season but he just is not healthy. He’s still having discomfort and he needs treatment in that finger. So we will not see him back.”

This will now end the fifth season in the association for Maxey. He averaged 26.3 points, a career-best in scoring but on a career-worst field-goal percentage and his worst three-point percentage since his rookie season, along with 6.1 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and another high of 1.8 steals. However, due to multiple injuries, Maxey will appear in the fewest games of his career so far.

Again, Philadelphia has just been completely depleted this year with injuries. All three of their stars are now officially out with season-ending injuries. Joel Embiid is out after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and Paul George received an injection in his left adductor (left knee). Jared McCain, their first-round pick from last year’s draft, also tore the meniscus in his left knee back in early January while Eric Gordon (arthroscopic surgery on right wrist) missed the rest of this season as well.

Because of that, the 76ers are likely to finish with their worst record in almost a decade. They sit at 23-53, which is currently at 13th in the Eastern Conference, as they’ll miss the NBA Playoffs for the first time in seven postseasons.

This season has not gone well for the 76ers with their play on the floor and the injury concerns off of it. That now includes Maxey with him also set to rehab this offseason before a return no sooner than when next season tips off in Philly.
