Uber Eats edits Super Bowl LVIII commercial over peanut allergy joke

Uber Eats has removed part of its Super Bowl LVIII ad due to backlash for making fun of people with peanut allergies, per the New York Post.
In one scene, a man is seen breaking out in hives and sporting a swollen eye while eating out of a container of peanut butter. The man then says, “There’s peanuts in peanut butter? … Oh, it’s the primary ingredient.”
Uber Eats immediately came under fire for the commercial.
“We’re incredibly disappointed by @UberEats’ use of life-threatening food allergies as humor in its Super Bowl ad,” the non-profit group Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) wrote on X. “The suffering of 33M+ Americans with this condition is no joke. Life-threatening food allergy is a disease, not a diet. Enough is enough.”

The reference to the peanut butter allergy has been edited out of the commercial, which is expected to air Sunday night on CBS. The commercial is loaded with star power, including actress Jennifer Aniston, actor David Schwimmer, soccer legend David Beckham, his wife, Victoria, country music singer Jelly Roll and R&B/hip-hop artist Usher.
Super Bowl commercials cost a premium this year, as a 30-second slot is valued at $7 million. Many star athletes are present in them, Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino teaming up in one together. Former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski and WWE star/actor John Cena feature in another. BetMGM’s commercial sees a couple of G.O.A.T.’s taking centerstage: Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady and former NFL forward Wayne Gretzky.
