Following his third season with the Bruins, UCLA infielder Cody Schrier has officially heard his name called in the 2024 MLB Draft. Selected with the No. 394 overall pick in the 13th round by the Miami Marlins.

Schrier entered the NCAA transfer portal on July 1 following the college baseball season, and will now decide between choosing a new destination in his college career or take his talents to the big leagues.

Schrier played high school baseball at JSerra High School in San Juan Capistrano (CA) where he was a top 100 prospect in 2021 recruiting class. Ranked the No. 3 overall player in California, the No. 7 shortstop in the nation, and No. 29 overall prospect in the country according to Perfect Game. Making a firm commitment to UCLA that led to him going undrafted out of high school, choosing the Bruins, “because of the amazing academics as well as the prestigious baseball.”

As a true freshman in college, Schrier had a breakout season at UCLA. Named a consensus Freshman All-American and a Pac-12 All-Conference Team selectee after appearing and starting in 59 games as a true freshman for the Bruins. Boasting an impressive .298 batting average with 41 runs, 77 hits, 21 doubles, 42 RBIs, nine home runs, and 11 stolen bases.

Heading into his sophomore season, Schrier was named a Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball and was a member of the Preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List. Appearing and starting in 32 games before his season was cut short due to a labrum injury to his non-throwing arm. Ending the year with a dip in production with a .278 batting average, 29 runs, 37 hits, seven doubles, 19 RBIs, six home runs, and six stolen bases.

His production would take another hit his past season, batting .242 in his 44 games with 24 runs, 43 hits, five doubles, 23 RBIs, five home runs, and six stolen bases again. Failing to reach the level of play channeled in his true freshman season, but still showcasing his ability to play at the next level. Known for his top-notch instincts and a high baseball IQ in the infield that gives him chance to play shortstop in the pros.

Just 21 years old, Schrier stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 215 pounds. Showing the ability to have an offensive impact from the right side of the plate with untapped raw power that he could still achieve following his injury that compliments his soundness on defense and his overall makeup.
