Police pulled a handcuffed Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis off a plane after an incident, Saturday. Three days later, United Airlines issued an apology.

The airline released a statement, Tuesday, saying:

“This is clearly not the kind of travel experience we strive to provide, and we have reached out to Mr. Davis’s team to apologize. We have removed the flight attendant from duty while we closely review this matter.”

Terrell Davis, who helped win two Super Bowls for the Broncos, brought attention to the incident by using social media. He described what happened on a flight from Denver to the airport in Orange County, Calif. Davis was traveling with his wife and their three children. He said one of his son’s asked a flight attendant for a cup of ice. But the flight attendant didn’t react to his request. So Davis said he tapped the attendant on the arm. He said the flight attendant then told him “don’t him me.”

Davis acknowledged that he didn’t think anything more about what happened until the plane landed. That’s when the pilot asked everyone to remain seated as six policemen came onto the plane. They walked towards Davis, handcuffed him and removed the former running back from the plane.

“I was – and remain – humiliated, embarrassed, powerless, and angry,” Davis posted on Instagram.

Terrell Davis said that once he explained to the police what happened, the cops apologized and uncuffed him. The 51-year-old former running back enjoyed a distinguished career in the NFL. He was the league’s MVP in 1998 after he led the NFL in rushing. And he earned NFL offensive player of the year in 1996 and 1998. Davis played in two Super Bowls and was the MVP when the Broncos beat the Packers in January, 1998.

Terrell Davis earned a coveted spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
