US Open stars unleash NSFW tirade in tough Oakmont conditions

The 2025 US Open at the famed Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh, Pa., has created its fair share of headaches for PGA and LIV golfers alike this week, and Friday’s second round was no different.
Whether it was the fast and long greens or the thick roughs, Oakmont forced some of the best golfers in the game to elicit some choice words throughout the day Friday. That included 2024 Masters champion and 2025 PGA Championship winner Scottie Scheffler screaming “Gosh dang it” and striking his club on the ground after hooking a tee shot. Scheffler managed to recover, though, and still made the cut at 4-over par after mixing in four birdies with five bogies Friday.
Defending U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau did miss the cut though, bogeying nine times, with one of those prompting him to curse after missing a put by “f***ing 10 yards long” as he finished 10-over on Friday.
Ireland’s Shane Lowery yelled “F*** this place!” twice after lipping out a short putt for a bogey on the fourth hole, a 626-yard Par-5. Lowery bogied or double-bogied seven of his 18 holes Friday to miss the cut at +17.
Spain’s Jon Rahm also erupted with a “F***!” after his own putt skipped past the hole, leading him to bend over with his hands on his knees after a rough second round in which he had five bogies and just one birdie to finish 4-over par to make Friday night’s cut.

Suffice it to say, Oakmont hasn’t been kind to many this weekend.
Rory McIlroy smashes tee marker at US Open after drive lands in bunker
A frustrating day for Rory McIlroy at the U.S. Open continued on the 17th hole at Oakmont. He found the bunker – and a nearby tee marker wound up in the crosshairs.
McIlroy slammed his driver down on the marker after his tee shot wound up in the sand to the right of the green. It was the latest bad break for the reigning Masters champion, who was 3-over on the day and 7-over on the tournament heading into the 17th.
It looked like Oakmont would present a challenge to the players at this year’s U.S. Open, and that proved true. Leader Sam Burns is one of three golfers under par after the second round, sitting at 3-under.
