USA Basketball announces 2024 Select Team that will train with Olympic squad

The 2024 Summer Olympics are inching closer, which means the opportunity for fans to see the best American basketball players assembled into one squad to compete for gold.

Ahead of the actual Olympics, though, USA Basketball has fielded a Select Team that will join the actual national team and practice and workout with them this summer ahead of the actual games in August. On Friday, we found out the full list of hoopers who will be on that Select Team, which will be coached by current Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley.

As announced by USA Basketball, take a look at the full 2024 Select Team:

The big takeaway here is that a rising college hoops freshman and recent high school graduate Cooper Flagg made the cut. The Duke-bound forward is widely considered one of the best future NBA Draft prospects of the decade and is likely to go No. 1 overall next June. Now, Team USA will get a chance to see him in action against the nation’s best.

Otherwise, the group is stock full of rather young guys, with Langston Galloway and Nigel Hayes as the exceptions, who are also unique as the only players on the Select Team who play basketball oversees. Other than those two and Flagg, the rest are connected to an NBA team in some capacity.

You’ve got several 2024 rookies who will get some terrific experience ahead of their second seasons. Guys like Jaime Jaquez, Amen Thompson, Brand Podziemski, Brandon Miller and Trayce Jackson-Davis all produced promising years as rookies in ’24 and get the Select Team nod heading into 2024-25.
