USA Basketball announces 2023 men's national team featuring up-and-coming NBA superstars
USA Basketball announced the roster for the 2023 USA Basketball Men’s National Team on Thursday, which features some of the NBA’s top up-and-coming superstars.
The 2023 team will come together to compete for the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup which begins on Aug. 25 in Manila, Philippines. The tournament spans from Aug. 25 to Sept. 10 and, for the first time, will have games hosted by multiple countries in Asia. The Philippines is hosting, as well as Japan and Indonesia.
Steve Kerr, entering his 10th year as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, will lead Team USA in Manila. Assisting him are Gonzaga head coach Mark Few, L.A. Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue and Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra.
“My staff and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to coach such talented, team-oriented players,” Kerr said. “I’m confident this group will represent our country well, with effort, talent and a commitment to winning together. We look forward to competing for a gold medal in the World Cup later this summer.”
The 2023 USA men’s basketball team will try to capture the World Cup for the sixth time after claiming victory in the last edition in 2019. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2024 Summer Olympics held in Paris, France next July through August.
This year’s roster has players aged from 28 to 20 with 2022 NBA Draft first overall selection Paolo Banchero at 20 years old on one end and 2015 draft pick and 2021 NBA champ Bobby Portis on the other end at 28.

“On behalf of USA Basketball, I’m thrilled to introduce the 2023 USA Men’s National Team, which features some of basketball’s brightest talent,” said Grant Hill, USA Basketball Men’s National Team managing director. “We are excited for the challenges ahead and look forward to the opportunity to compete at the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup. I am confident that working together, and under the leadership of our outstanding coaching staff, this team will proudly represent the United States this summer in Manila.”
Before arriving in Manila, the USA Men’s National Team will hold training camp from Aug. 3-6 in Las Vegas. Then, they’ll play a series of exhibition games as part of the USA Basketball Showcase, which tips off Aug. 7 vs. Puerto Rico at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. The USA will also face Slovenia on Aug. 12 and Spain on Aug. 13 in Malaga, Spain, and Greece and Germany on Aug. 18 and 20, respectively, in Abu Dhabi.
As part of Group C, Team USA will play New Zealand on Aug. 26, Green on Aug. 28 and Jordan on Aug. 30. Although the game versus Jordan tips off at 4:30 a.m. ET, the other two games tip off at 8:30 a.m. ET, making it easier to watch them live.
FIBA recently announced that all 92 World Cup games will be available on various ESPN platforms. Six games will air exclusively on ESPN2, including three in the first round featuring USA Basketball. All other 86 games will be carried by ESPN+ while also being available on FIBA’s official streaming service, Courtside 1891.
