Elliott played receiver at Clemson from 2000-2003 and coached for the Tigers from 2011-2021, helping Clemson win a pair of national titles.
He started off as the running backs coach, before being promoted to offensive coordinator from 2015-2021. At the conclusion of that season, Elliott was hired as the head coach at Virginia.
This is the first time Clemson and Virginia have played since Elliott was hired to lead the Cavaliers program.
Elliott spoke during the preseason about what it will be like returning to Memorial Stadium.
“To go back to Death Valley, obviously being an alum, and there’s gonna be some emotion prior to the game,” he said. “But man, once the ball is kicked off I have a responsibility to these young men sitting right here and the other young men that are going to be on that travel squad,” Elliot said. “To make sure that I take myself out of it and that I’m the best that I can be to help these young men be successful so that they have an opportunity to go earn victory in the field.”
